Future fuels of aviation
23 January 2007
This powerpoint presentation lists the concern of aviation gasoline producers as regards to the availability of tetraethyllead, ethylendibromide a toxic and ozone layer depleting substance as lead scavenger and costs of handling one leaded product in an unleaded environment.
The potential solution is ethers for example made from ethanol (ETBE).
In Europe ETBE is widely available with several production sites.
However new fuels require substantial research and are very expensive to develop.
Politicians can help to speed things up by giving tax incentives.
